Apple Fries

  • 2 large Granny Smith apples
  • 1 cup all purpose flour (130 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon apple pie spice
  • 3 large eggs

Dip

  • 1 cup confectioners sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 tablespoons whole milk


Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples: Peel the apples and slice them into thin strips using a sharp knife or fry cutter. Set aside.
  2. Make the flour mixture: In a small bowl, combine the flour and apple pie spice, then whisk well to blend.
  3. Whisk eggs: In a separate dish, whisk the eggs thoroughly.
  4. Coat the apple fries: In small batches, toss apple fries in the flour mixture, lift with a slotted spoon and shake off excess. Then dip each fry into the eggs, shake off excess egg, and coat again in the flour mixture. Shake off extra flour and place on a wire rack lined with parchment paper.
  5. Preheat air fryer: Set the air fryer to 325ºF and let it preheat.
  6. Air fry the apples: Generously spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the apple fries in a single layer without overlapping. Spray tops generously with cooking spray. Cook for 5 minutes, then turn fries, spray again, and cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Add cinnamon sugar: Remove fries and immediately sprinkle with cinnamon sugar while hot so it sticks. Repeat with additional batches.
  8. Prepare the dip: In a small bowl, whisk confectioners sugar, vanilla extract, and add milk 1 tablespoon at a time until desired dipping consistency is reached.
  9. Serve: Serve apple fries immediately with the vanilla glaze dip or drizzle the icing over the fries.
