Ingredients
Scale
Fritter
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose white flour
- 3 tablespoons white granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ cup whole milk
- 1½ tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 large eggs, cold
- 2 gala apples, diced
Glaze
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ¼ cup whole milk
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Combine Dry Ingredients: Whisk together the flour, baking soda, white granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Set aside.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk, lemon juice, and cold eggs until the mixture is smooth and uniform.
- Mix Batter: Carefully fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing gently to avoid overmixing which can cause dense fritters.
- Add Apples: Fold the diced gala apples into the batter evenly.
- Prep Air Fryer Basket: Line the basket of your air fryer with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Using a ¼ cup measure, scoop dollops of the batter onto the parchment paper spaced apart.
- Air Fry Fritters: Cook the fritters at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 7 minutes. After 7 minutes, carefully flip each fritter and air fry for an additional 4 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
- Make Glaze: While fritters are frying, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, whole milk, and cinnamon until smooth and glossy.
- Glaze Fritters: Immediately after removing fritters from the air fryer, spoon the prepared glaze over them to coat.
- Serve: Serve the apple fritters warm or at room temperature for best flavor.
Notes
- Choose a crunchy apple like Gala, Honeycrisp, or Granny Smith for the best texture in fritters.
- Use whole milk in the glaze for optimal flavor and texture; add additional powdered sugar one tablespoon at a time if a thicker glaze is desired.
- Allow fritters to cool to room temperature before storing in an airtight container. They can be kept at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerated for up to 1 week.
- To reheat, microwave in 10-second intervals or bake in the oven at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes until warmed through.
