Description

Classic buttery and tender cookies made with simple ingredients, perfect for any occasion. These butter cookies have a delicate texture and can be piped into beautiful shapes with ease, ideal for holiday baking or everyday treats.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter softened (use high-quality, name brand butter)
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 Large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups All purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • 1-2 tablespoons Milk or more if needed; any kind

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl or stand mixer, mix the softened butter and granulated sugar on medium low speed until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg and vanilla: Beat in the large egg and vanilla extract on medium low speed until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  4. Incorporate dry ingredients: Slowly add the all-purpose flour and salt, mixing just until fully incorporated. Take care not to overmix the dough.
  5. Add milk for consistency: Add milk one tablespoon at a time, using the minimum amount needed to achieve a consistency suitable for piping.
  6. Pipe the dough: Transfer the cookie dough into a piping bag and pipe small circles onto the prepared baking sheet. Optionally, add sprinkles on top of the cookies.
  7. Chill the dough: Chill the piped dough on the baking sheets in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to prevent spreading during baking.
  8. Bake the cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes or until the edges start to turn golden brown.
  9. Cool completely: Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool completely on the baking sheet before serving.

Notes

  • Store the cookies at room temperature for 5-7 days or freeze for up to 6-8 months to maintain freshness.
  • Chilling the dough after piping and before baking is crucial to prevent spreading and maintain shape.
  • If cookies spread during baking, try adding a few more tablespoons of flour to the dough for better structure.
  • Use high-quality, brand-name butter (such as Challenge, Kerrygold, or Tillamook) as moisture content in butter can affect cookie texture.
  • Adjust flour based on weather conditions and altitude to achieve optimal dough consistency.
