Description
Delicious and easy-to-make chocolate dipped apple slices featuring crisp, firm apples coated in melted chocolate and adorned with your favorite toppings. Perfect as a healthy snack or a festive treat.
Ingredients
Scale
Apples
- 2 firm apples (e.g. Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Fuji)
Chocolate
- 6 ounces semi-sweet, milk, or dark chocolate
Toppings
- Optional toppings of choice such as shredded coconut, chopped nuts or seeds, mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, dried or freeze dried fruit, crushed cookies
- Optional drizzles: warmed peanut butter, caramel, or different melted chocolate (for after chocolate sets)
Instructions
- Slice apples: Cut each apple into 8 wedges, removing the core and seeds. Pat the apple slices dry thoroughly with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- Melt chocolate: Chop the chocolate into small pieces if using a bar. Reserve a small handful of chopped chocolate. Place the remaining chocolate in a heat-proof bowl over a saucepan with about 1 inch of barely simmering water, ensuring the bowl bottom does not touch the water. Stir constantly until melted. Remove from heat and stir in the reserved chocolate until smooth and fully melted.
- Dip apple slices and add toppings: Hold each apple slice by one end and dip into the melted chocolate, covering about ¾ of the slice. Lift and let excess chocolate drip off, then immediately press or sprinkle your chosen toppings onto the chocolate so they stick. Place dipped slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet. For wet toppings like peanut butter or caramel, allow the chocolate to fully harden first before drizzling on.
- Set and enjoy: Refrigerate the dipped apple slices for 5 to 10 minutes to let the chocolate set completely. Serve chilled and enjoy.
Notes
- Use good quality chocolate with cocoa butter for smoother melting and better taste. Recommended brands include Callebaut, Ghirardelli, Lindt, Baker’s, and Guittard.
- Toppings can be combined as desired; try shredded coconut, nuts, mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, dried fruit, or crushed cookies.
- For melting chocolate in a microwave, heat in 20-second increments stirring each time to prevent burning, though stovetop double boiler method is preferred.
- These chocolate dipped apple slices are best eaten fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- Make sure apple slices are dry before dipping to ensure chocolate sticks well and does not slide off.
