Scale
Main Ingredients
- 8 ounces white, milk or dark chocolate, chopped (or chocolate chips)
- 4 cups popped plain popcorn
Decorations
- Your choice of edible Halloween decorations: candy eyeballs, Halloween sprinkles, etc.
Instructions
- Prep Equipment: Grab or prep your muffin pan and set aside. Choose from a 12-cup silicone muffin pan (preferred), 12 silicone baking cups set on a baking sheet, or a regular muffin pan lined with plastic wrap pushed down into the cups to easily release the popcorn balls.
- Melt Chocolate: Melt the chocolate in a heat-proof bowl over gently simmering water or microwave in 20-second increments, stirring until smooth. Avoid overheating or burning the chocolate.
- Mix: Pour the melted chocolate into a large mixing bowl over the popped popcorn. Stir thoroughly until all popcorn is evenly coated with chocolate.
- Distribute + Decorate: Working quickly, spoon the chocolate-coated popcorn evenly into the prepared muffin pan or baking cups. Gently press candy eyeballs, Halloween sprinkles, or other edible decorations on top to secure them in place.
- Set: Place the filled pan in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes or until the chocolate is completely set and hardened. Once set, pop the popcorn balls out of the cups and enjoy.
Notes
- Storage: Best eaten the same day but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days.
- Use silicone muffin pans or baking cups for easy removal of the popcorn balls.
- You can use white, milk, or dark chocolate chips according to your taste preference.
- For a firmer popcorn ball, press the mixture gently down into the cups before refrigerating.
- Get creative with decoration by using different Halloween themed candies or sprinkles.
- For a quicker set time, chill in the freezer for about 10 minutes but monitor to prevent frost buildup.
