Description

A festive and moist Holiday Eggnog Bread infused with warm spices and creamy eggnog, topped with a sweet eggnog glaze and a sprinkle of nutmeg, perfect for seasonal gatherings and holiday breakfasts.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread

  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup eggnog
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted and cooled
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Icing

  • 1 cup powdered sugar sifted
  • 2 tablespoons eggnog
  • Dash of nutmeg
  • Nutmeg for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare Pan and Oven: Grease the bottom of a 9″ x 5″ loaf pan with cooking spray or butter to prevent sticking. Preheat the oven to 350°F to ensure it’s at the right temperature for baking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and ground nutmeg to evenly distribute the leavening agents and spices.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the beaten eggs, granulated sugar, melted and cooled unsalted butter, eggnog, and vanilla extract thoroughly until well combined and smooth.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients gradually and stir until all ingredients are just combined, being careful not to overmix to keep the bread tender.
  5. Pour Batter and Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan evenly. Bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean, ensuring the bread is fully cooked.
  6. Cool the Bread: Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Then invert the loaf onto a cooling rack to cool completely, which helps the bread set and prevents sogginess.
  7. Prepare the Icing: In a small bowl, mix the sifted powdered sugar with eggnog, adding the eggnog one tablespoon at a time, until the desired consistency is reached. Add a dash of nutmeg for flavor.
  8. Glaze and Garnish: Pour the prepared icing over the cooled bread and sprinkle with a little extra nutmeg for a festive finish. Allow the icing to set before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the melted butter is cooled before mixing to prevent cooking the eggs prematurely.
  • Use fresh eggnog for best flavor and moisture.
  • If you prefer a stronger nutmeg flavor, feel free to add a little extra in the batter or garnish.
  • The glaze can be adjusted in thickness by adding more powdered sugar or eggnog accordingly.
  • Store the bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate to keep longer.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute eggnog and butter with plant-based alternatives.
