Description

A savory and flavorful Ground Beef Puff Pastry topped with creamy hummus, toasted pine nuts, and fresh parsley. This easy-to-make recipe combines flaky puff pastry with spiced ground beef for a delicious appetizer or main dish perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Puff Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)

Beef Mixture

  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon ground coriander
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Toppings

  • ½ cup hummus
  • 2 Tablespoons pine nuts toasted
  • Fresh parsley chopped (for garnish)
  • Olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the puff pastry sheet on a lined baking sheet. Cut slits about ½ inch from the edges, forming a square frame without cutting all the way through. Prick the center area with a fork to prevent puffing. Brush the entire pastry with the beaten egg and bake for 15 minutes until golden and puffed.
  2. Make the Beef Mixture: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add ground beef, breaking it apart, and cook until browned. Stir in ground cumin, coriander, paprika, salt, and pepper, then cook for an additional 3 minutes.
  3. Assemble: Slightly press down the center of the baked puff pastry to create a shallow well. Spread the hummus evenly over the center. Spoon the cooked beef mixture on top of the hummus. Sprinkle toasted pine nuts and chopped fresh parsley over the top and drizzle with olive oil.
  4. Serve: Slice the pastry into squares and serve warm for a delightful appetizer or main dish.

Notes

  • Ensure the puff pastry is fully thawed before use for even baking.
  • For extra flavor, toast the pine nuts slowly over low heat until golden.
  • Use fresh parsley for garnish to add a pop of color and freshness.
  • If desired, substitute ground beef with ground lamb or turkey.
  • Egg wash helps the pastry achieve a golden color; do not skip this step.
  • This dish pairs well with a fresh green salad or a side of roasted vegetables.
