Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil
- 1 pound sliced baby bella mushrooms
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme or ½ tablespoon dried thyme
- ½ teaspoon salt, or to taste
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
- 2 tablespoons sliced green onions (optional)
Instructions
- Heat the oil: Gently heat 1 tablespoon of neutral oil in a skillet over medium heat until hot but not smoking.
- Cook mushrooms: Add 1 pound of sliced baby bella mushrooms to the skillet and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally as they begin to release their water.
- Brown and season: Continue stirring the mushrooms until they begin to brown, then add 3 minced garlic cloves, 1 tablespoon fresh thyme (or ½ tablespoon dried thyme), ½ teaspoon salt, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Mellow garlic: Cook for an additional 1 to 2 minutes to allow the garlic to mellow and turn golden, making sure it does not burn.
- Optional garnish: Just before serving, sprinkle 2 tablespoons of sliced green onions or chives on top for a fresh flavor.
Notes
- Wipe mushrooms clean with a damp kitchen towel instead of washing to prevent sogginess.
- Slice mushrooms evenly and thinly for uniform cooking and better caramelization.
- Preheat the pan properly so mushrooms sizzle on contact, promoting searing rather than steaming.
- Avoid overcrowding the pan; cook mushrooms in batches if needed to ensure they brown nicely.
